Our thoughts and prayers are with Kile Glover, his mother Tameka Raymond, his father Ryan, his step dad Usher and the rest of his family and friends. Kile was injured in a jet skiing accident and recently pronounced brain dead. We are praying for a miracle; that this sweet boy is made well and makes a full recovery. Please join us in prayer!
UPDATE: We are so very sorry to learn that Kile passed away 7/21/2012. Our thoughts and prayers are with his mother, father, brothers, family and friends.
The OMG Girlz continue to dominate the favorite posts! Here’s a list of our most read posts from the last week:
It’s no secret that The OMG Girlz are popular with The Fab Girls’ readership! The posts about this FAB Girl group continue to be our highest rated, especially this one!
The last time we featured Tiny and Zonnique (aka Star of The OMG Girlz) in a photo together, Star was celebrating her 16th birthday in a lavish ceremony.
Now the mother and daughter are on the April/May cover of Hype Hair, just in time for Mother’s Day! I think they both look great, what do you think?
We announced that FAB Girl Deidra Shores won 106 and Park‘s ‘Dream Reporter’ contest, which gave her the opportunity to cover The Disney Dreamer’s Academy. The once-in-a-lifetime event gives young people the opportunity to spend four days immersed in motivational workshops, career seminars, and the opportunity to meet celebrities who encourage them to achieve their dreams.
Youngblackstarz.com has a video of her on 106 and Park, talking about her experience. See it here!
We featured Beverly Bond during our month of FAB Women and Girls making history, and were honored and flattered when she thanked us on Twitter for including her. Black Girls Rock! is everything The Fab Girls wants to be; an entity that hopes to educate, inspire, and uplift young girls that are (F)emale (A)nd (B)lack!
The founder and CEO of Black Girls Rock is continuing to provide young girls ages 13-17 with the opporunity to participate in the Black Girls Rock! Queens Camp this summer.
Take the jump to find out more about this exciting camp for, how to apply, and scholarship information!
The Hunger Games opened last weekend, and one of the main characters, Rue, was played by FAB Girl Amandla Stemberg. Read her interview with Ebony.com. where she talks about being part of such a huge project, and the kinds of roles she would like to play in the future.
It took some time to think about how exactly to honor Trayvon Martin on a blog that is intended for female and black young girls, that talks about fashion, celebrities, beauty, and other FAB women for this young generation to look up to. But every time I look at this haunting image of Trayvon, none of that seems important. All that matters is that I do say something. His eyes seem to be pleading with us, all of us, to make sure his life wasn’t taken in vain.
It’s still Women’s History Month! The Fab Girls didn’t exist when Chef Danielle Sanders became the first FAB chef to win the Food Network’s show ‘Chopped‘. Contestants must take ordinary ingredients and turn them into something spectacular. They must have a skill set that includes speed, skill and creativity, and be judged by a panel of four.
She has worked as a personal chef for Diddy, and in some of the country’s finest restaurants.
Here is a link her her ‘About Me’ page: http://about.me/daniellethechef
And a link to a Huffington Post piece about her, including a recipe for her sweet potato and pecan tart-let! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/11/sweet-potato-recipes-from-food-networks-chopped-champion-danielle-saunders_n_1089099.html
